The Founder
Diane St. John, MBA, APR
Founder and President
Diane St. John believes that successful organizations continually work to build trust with groups critical to their success. Communication Strategies focuses on helping organizations enhance their effectiveness by creating and maintaining a culture that fosters mutual trust and excellent internal communications.
Diane has a BA in journalism from Michigan State University, an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and more than 25 years of experience in corporate communications and consulting.
After writing for newspapers and magazines in Michigan, North Carolina, and Florida, Diane joined GTE, where she was responsible for internal communications in the 11,000-employee Florida company. Over eight years, her responsibilities expanded to include coordinating communications support for eight state public affairs managers and writing speeches for a variety of executives.
In 1985, Diane joined the Charlotte, NC-based public relations firm of Epley Associates as a senior counselor and account group manager. There she worked closely with executives of a wide variety of firms, helping to assess and solve internal and external communications problems.
Diane created Communication Strategies in 1988. Her research, professional development, networking and client work are focused on the impact of internal communication on an organization's success.
Diane is a member of the Charlotte Chamber and the Council for Communication Management and is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America and the American Society for Training and Development. She is currently president of the Charlotte Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. The Charlotte Chamber named her "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1994. She also is active in the Carolinas Organizational Development Network, Women in Communications and Charlotte Sister Cities.
